Explanation of CPP Scales
1. Emotional Intensity (E)
Assesses physical, mental and social intensity levels.
High scoring individuals are:
- excitable and restless
- motivated toward immediate results
Low scoring individuals are:
- persistent and even-paced
- motivated toward security, predictability and order
2. Intuition (I)
Measures the degree to which an individual relies upon experience and feelings to make decisions or solve problems.
High scoring individuals:
- dislike detailed analysis of complex subject matter
- avoid situations that require deep concentration or long term memory
Low scoring individuals:
- use an analytical approach to problem solving
- enjoy challenges that require deep concentration or detailed analysis
3. Recognition Motivation (R)
Assesses the need for status, prestige, or acknowledgement.
High scoring individuals are:
- dependent on consistent feedback from others
- motivated by situations that provide public recognition and popularity
Low scoring individuals:
- seek activities that provide private recognition and self respect
4. Sensitivity (S)
Describes the degree to which one expressively demonstrates the warmth and caring.
High scoring individuals are:
- are actively involved in helping and nurturing others
Low scoring individuals are:
- controlled and private
- typically avoid open relationships
5. Assertiveness (A)
Measures the ability to influence the actions of others
High scoring individuals:
- confidently assert themselves when necessary
Low scoring individuals are:
- have difficulty saying "no" when confronted
- often too agreeable and too concerned about what others may think of them
6. Trust (T)
Measures an individual's perception of the surrounding world
High scoring individuals:
- are open and trustworthy
- see others as open and trustworthy until proven wrong
- initially give others the "benefit of the doubt"
Low scoring individuals:
- are sceptical
- initially require others to "prove themselves" before a trusting relationship can result
7. Exaggeration (X)
Assesses the degree to which the test candidate is exaggerating strengths or downplaying weaknesses in order to appear more favourable to the interviewer/manager. This scale also helps determine the validity (accuracy) of the overall responses to the questionnaire.
High scoring individuals (over 70%)
- are intentionally or unintentionally presenting a more favourable image regarding conformity, self control or moral values
Low scoring individuals:
- are presenting themselves in a less favourable light
- are being more forthright and critical of their personal qualities
